My mother was raised Catholic, converted and was baptized into the Watchtower as an adult, then left the Witnesses after 30 years and returned to the Catholic Church. She spent the last 20 years as a Catholic. She so regretted ever becoming a JW.

Poopie asked if Jehovah's Witnesses use psychological terrorism. Of course it's not the same as physical terrorism. It's creating a state of terror within in the mind without actually using bombs. But is it any less terrifying because it's happening invisibly? I say they're achieving the same results, manipulating through fear, just using another technique. It's even more sinister in some respects because they're doing it while not drawing attention to themselves. No bad press. -

Absolutely. That's exactly what they do. I'm going to use that expression.
Anyone who has awoken in the middle of the night, drenched in a cold sweat, in the midst of a panic attack, knows they are psychological terrorists.
It took decades to overcome the terror embedded in my mind. I guess you never fully overcome the brain damage.

At the "Children of the KIng" St. Louis convention in 1941, over 1300 children were baptized. Some were as young as six years of age.
I just met someone who was baptized as a child at this convention. She was 10 years old. She remembers all the children being gathered in front of the stage and being asked if they'd like to be baptized. She told me she said to herself "I don't know! I haven't made up my mind yet". However, she did get baptized because it wasn't an option not to. She was just herded along with all the others and baptized against her will. Now in her 80's, she is still suffering the fallout from this.

Every business knows it costs many times more to attract new customers than to retain existing ones. I'm surprised Watchtower doesn't encourage this. -

"Most women would prefer to be stay at home housewives. Women's lib did alot of damage to women!"
by purrpurr inthe above is a quote from a jw female relative.
this was in response to a discussion about the suffragette movement ( and the movie about it that's currently in cinemas).
she seemed to think that it would be so much better if women were just daughters/ wives/ mothers and didn't go out to work and have career's?

I don't know about "most" but I'm sure there are a lot of women that would prefer not to have to work outside the house. Especially if there are children involved. Personally, I know more than a few women who did just that. Quit their jobs to raise a family. -

Nerd in the brain, I think people are just trying to warn you not to be deceived. You won't see the dark side of this organization unless you become a member. Until then, you're just a recruitment target. Jehovah's Witnesses don't have friends outside the organization. They won't even be friends with those considered spiritually weak within the congregation. I know you don't want to believe this but sadly it's true. Fortunately, as long as you don't get baptized you'll continue to be treated like a queen. -

Dont Give Them More Power Than They Deserve
by Tech49 ina new montra that was recently adopted by the wife and i is this:.
dont give them more power than they deserve.. here's why i say that, and i point this to those of you still in the congregation, still trying to decide what you want to do.. recently, our family had a little family reunion gathering of sorts, and we were in the company of some extended family that were either df or da, to varying degrees.
we made it very clear, to any and all in attendance, that we wanted to be respectful and kind, despite any previous perceptions about our "status".... and that our feelings on a lot of things had "softened", and "changed" over the last 2 years.. i am being purposefully slightly vague, but i think you get the point.

Yes it's a great idea. I wish I had thought of it before I went through the inquisition. -

JW message becoming more and more relevant
by lsw1961 inmans requirements are limited which can be satisfied with a little and tension-free endeavor..
however man attempts not only to collect but also to grab and amass everything to the excess.
somehow he feels that he can be happy only when he has in abundance whereas others have nothingwhich seems to be the thread that runs throughout the history.

Also, I agree with the title of his thread. However, regarding evolution, creation, etc., Either I don't have enough knowledge or I'm not smart enough to know what the truth is. I don't have firm convictions in those areas. I like to read what other people believe.
